The budget for next year primarily consists of $770 a month for
12 months totaling $9,240. We have just enough in the account to cover that
amount! Thanks!
Having achieved food security for the seniors for 2009, our
secondary commitment to rebuild the toilet and shower facilities at Good
Samaritan Home is next! These facilities are abysmal, degrading and inhumane as
you can see here.
It is imperative that we rebuild these facilities, roof the
area, then create an outside covered walkway from the bedrooms to the area. The
beauty of the plan is that the kitchen is right next to the toilet and shower
area so roofing them will also roof the kitchen! We estimate the cost to be
approximately $25,000.
Our first fund raiser for this project will be Shrove Tuesday,
Feb 24th, the day before Ash Wednesday, otherwise known as Mardi Gras. Lord of
the Mountains (LOTM) is celebrating with a wonderful community meal prior to
the somberness of Lent. A free will offering will be collected at that time.
The seniors of Jeremie will also be the recipients of an offering at LOTM on
Sunday, Feb.22nd. Donations will be matched by Thrivent, a Lutheran benevolence
organization.
Between now and Feb. 24th we implore all of you to count the
number of times you use the toilet during the day in your home … Then … give $1
for every flush in one month to the seniors in Haiti! We will have what we need
in no time!!!!
Your past, present, and future generosity is acknowledged and appreciated.
Peace, Deborah
